Economic Insights is an economic consulting firm that provides consulting on a wide range of regional economic issues, and specializes in the application of state-of-the-art methodologies, including IMPLAN 3.0, statistical and econometric analysis, and forecasting.

Economic Insights also offers facilitation for large and small forums, organizational visioning, and strategic planning.

Colin Read, Principal Consultant

Colin Read is the Director of the Institute for Development and Economic Analysis (IDEA) and a Professor of Finance and Economics at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. He has a Ph.D. in regional economics and industrial strategy from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He has also earned a B.Sc. in Physics from Simon Fraser University, a Juris Doctor of Law from the University of Connecticut, a Master's of Taxation from the University of Tulsa, a Master's of Science in Economics from Queen's University, and a Master's of Business Administration from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The University of Alaska Fairbanks conferred upon Dr. Read the honor of Professor Emeritus of Economics. He is the former dean of the School of Business and Economics at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, and serves on three corporate boards.

Colin has published a number of books dealing with the evolving global economy. His titles include:

"The Rise and Fall of an Economic Empire - with lessons for aspiring economies" - to be published in the Fall of 2010 by MacMillan

"The Fear Factor - what happens when fear grips Wall Street" - published by MacMillan in August of 2009

"Global Financial Meltdown - how to avoid the next economic crisis" - published by MacMillan in October 2008

"International Taxation Handbook - Policy, Practice, Standards, and Regulations" - published by Elsevier Press, April 2007, Colin Read and Greg Gregoriou, editors

Colin also writes a business and economics column every Sunday for the regional newspaper, the Press-Republican, and appears monthly to discuss regional and national economic issues on the regional Mountain Lake Public Broadcasting Service station.

Colin directs the Institute for Development and Economic Analysis, a regional economic thinktank in Upstate New York.
